How it all started

Our team was created in 1995 by a group of young entrepreneurs who took it upon themselves to pursue a manufacturing tradition that had been present in their separate families. Among them, was President & CEO, Alain Villard who began operations with Palm Apparel S.A, in an empty factory which used to house the production of baseballs and softballs in the 1970's.

Mr. Villard took the reigns and became an independent clothing contractor, working with several renowned companies in the US until 2002, when a partnership was formed with GILDAN, a multinational active wear company. Palm Apparel Group started operating out of Sewing International S.A in 2006 to accommodate increasing demands. At this point, they had roughly 3,000 employees assembling basic t-shirts.

In the midst of this expansion, the country was politically unstable which created several social and economical challenges. With resilience and commitment, the CEO and his team persevered and continued on with their determined vision and end goal: to contribute to building a better Haiti.

In 2010, the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti paralyzed Palm Apparel S.A as we lost our most important floor of production. To our great despair, 60 members of the Palm Apparel S.A family perished. However, with the duty to recreate employment opportunities in the impoverished Carrefour region, a new and more modern floor was quickly built and went into operation within three months after the earthquake. We also went on to acquire a subsidiary of Palm Apparel S.A called Diquini.

Our motivation to expand and grow employment in the country has pushed the group to create Zone Franche des Palmiers S.A, to strategically acquire one of the leading private commercial banks in the country, and to now undertake one of the biggest projects in the Haitian manufacturing sector, the building of Zone Franche de Digneron S.A., where we opened a new plant, Digneron Manufacturing S.A.
